ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INCORPORATED®

Founded on the campus of Howard University, Washington, D.C., on January 15, 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-trained women. This small group of like-minded women were just one generation removed from slavery. They were committed to academics, service, and community empowerment. After the Sorority’s incorporation in 1913, Alpha Kappa Alpha gradually branched out and became the channel through which college-trained women improved the socioeconomic conditions in their cities, states, the nation and the world.

As the Sorority continued to grow, it reiterated the importance of empowering women, unity, strength and courage. It has a legacy of service that extends beyond college graduation. Through the years, the goals of its program activities have centered on family and community. These program initiatives have focused not only on service, but a sisterhood with a global legacy.
